Blizzard Warning: DO NOT TRAVEL

Around here we are not about letting any grass grow under our feet.(Not that any could grow this time of year, but none the less...) Two days after returning home from Sunny Florida we headed in the complete opposite direction to pay a visit to the Porcupine mountains on the Upper Pininsula of Michagan. We trekked in on Wednesday to this cozy little cabin. The previous occupants even left the wood stove going for us so the place was toasty to boot! The weather reports for Thursday and Friday were not too friendly. Winter storm warnings and blizzard warnings were all that were broadcast over our trusty weather radio. The sea state on nearby Gitche Gummi(Lake Superior) was forcast for mighty 28 foot waves! All I can say is impressive. I am glad that I was on snowshoes and not in my kayak. The storm was slated to hit mid-day on Thursday so we skied out Thursday morning to a phone to make necessary plans in the event that we could not make it out. After a beautiful ski we found our way back to the little winter oasis to welcome in the roaring March lion. Friday morning was a bit more snowy than the day before but unforutnately it was nothing that would casue us to hunker in for one more night. So we packed up after two calm, quiet, and peaceful days in the north woods to make the three mile jaunt back to the car.
The fresh foot of snow made for a bit more work than on the way in but it was ever so beautiful so we hardly noticed. The group was two volunteers from camp, Molly and Sarah and Rebecca and I. The adventure could not have been more succesful. Good food, card games perfect snow and funny stories. We can't wait until winter comes back next year.
