Day 0

Greetings from Camp Gray!  Rebecca here - with a quick update.  I was fortunate to be able to spend the whole day with Jeff.  Today was Transplant Day or Day 0!  So, what does that really mean anyway?  The 13 billion stem cells that they collected from Jeff's blood a couple of weeks ago were infused back to him.  The whole process took about a half hour.  The cells equal only about a cup of liquid.  It was hooked up to his IV via his pic line.  Two nurses stayed in the room with us to make sure he did not have any adverse reactions like a fever or change in blood pressure - he did great.  Nothing to report.

Throughout the day he was also feeling a bit of nausea and a bad taste in his mouth - this is from the 6 days of chemo he just had.  He also gets tired from walking up the stairs or just from moving around too much.  The effects of the chemo will really hit in about 3 days and he will feel pretty tired and weak and just plain crappy for awhile until those stem cells start doing their job again (that usually takes 10-14 days).

We were able to walk down to the cafeteria together and sit out on the 4th floor patio.  It was great to just hang out.
