Food, Family and Fun
The sunrise looked magical coming up over the Atlantic ocean from the beaches of Fort Luaderdale. The previous night we were blessed to watch the sun melt into the horizon over the Gulf of Mexico from Key West. The week in Florida started off right with an extended layover in Cincinnati. We met our new goddaughter just ten days after birth!!! She is a precious one and we can't wait to watch her grow up.
Our first night in Florida was celebrated in fine style at the Casablanca Cafe. For those of you fortunate enough to taste the food at our wedding just a year and a half ago, this food was prepared by the same wonderful chef,Chef Kev, as they call him at the cafe. Kevin, Rebecca's younger brother, treated us to some of the finest food that I have had in quite a long time. From the wine to the Chilian Sea Bass to the Amaretto cheesecake everything was perfect. We spent three hours taking in the ocean view and feasting on fabulous cuisine.
The ocean-side grill, although not the cafe, provided some great eats too. We treated ourselves to a true Wisconsin meal consisting of Brats, kraut, Corn on the cob and potatos. Yummy!!
In just one short week we managed to see much of the state. We made it all the way fom St. Petersburg on the West coast all the way down to Key West, only 90 miles from Cuba. St. Petersburg is the home of the Sweetwater Kayak Symposium. We headed over there for a bit of time on the water. I took a few classes in the progression leading up to certification as a kayaking coach. Onward and upward on the water. All in all we had a great week. Kite flying, swimming in the surf, and good eats!! The trip had it all. Even a few Alligator
sightings. Thanks Kev for a great time.
This is the start (or finish I suppose) of Highway 1 way down in Key West .
